  1. Top 5 Favourite Posts #1 “November 14…Humbled”

When compiling this list, I had to laboriously look through all the blogs that I have written. This one I enjoyed the most. It wasn’t perhaps the funniest, the most clever, the most popular but I do think it was the most of what reflects my greatest desire- to see Jesus glorified and his name made great.

This post represents a great season of life in ministry leading with people that I love dearly and watching God do cool things. Now that season is over and I am thankful for all these and the God that brought us together. It was fun to look back and reflect.

    I Am Humbled Today.

I want to publicly thank Jennifer McFee for her great article about what is going on at Ethos. She was very kind and energetic as an interviewer…so much so that I never even knew she was interviewing me during our phone conversation a few weeks ago!

The article is about what we are doing with social media to influence young adults. It’s pretty second nature to those of us in ministry but apparently its so newsworthy that the Vancouver Sun picked it up as well.

It’s one thing to get an article written about you in the local, municipal paper. That was cool. But when I saw that the Sun picked up the article about Ethos (when my dad texted me that he read it this morning), I almost fell off my chair. That is very cool.

Somebody asked me today what it felt like to be famous. I will blog about what it’s like to be famous once I do some research of some famous people, tally the results and then I will post them. Until then, I’m not sure what the answer is.

As I’m typing this on the web domain that bears my name; writing about newspaper articles that have my picture and my quotes in them, I am reminded of all the nights sitting on the bench in junior hockey, all the bus rides sitting alone, all the times since then that I got passed up or overlooked for opportunities I really wanted or thought I deserved (certainly better than the meatheads who were picked!…still haven’t fully worked through that one I see).

Others may have not, but Jesus picked me. He was always there as a friend. He taught me that even though people may not know my name, he still did. He made it clear that his name and fame were to be the goal of my life— not my own. He was there in the quiet times. Just like he is here now when things are getting a little louder.

When I got home from school in Seattle today, I found the two articles on my bed (I have a very kind roommate who put the papers aside for me). I was a little moved and went straight to my knees. I asked Jesus to be honoured and glorified in any way he desires through these articles.

I don’t know how he will answer that but I’ll gladly be a part of it. It’s fun so far.

I’ll take the remaining 9 minutes of my 15 in this great moment as we celebrate what God is doing in lives at Ethos. I’ll take it but will most certainly remember those long lonely lessons when it was just Jesus and I and nobody else was calling or writing anything to keep it from becoming too exciting

When I ask those famous people about their fame, I will also ask what keeps them grounded. I hope they say that God spent years shaping their heart to grasp that the praise of man is fleeting and fickle. I hope they pursue the glory and the praise that comes from God. It is so eternal and never changing. Otherwise, that sort of thing might lead them to think it was all about them.

It’s not. It’s about Jesus. Always has been. Always will be.
